Melatonin - hormone that occurs naturally in the human body. It is a substance produced in the central nervous system by the pineal gland, which is one of the endocrine glands, which is a derivative of tryptophan. The synthesis and secretion of melatonin in the body is enhanced by darkness, while light inhibits the processes. The body's natural production of the hormone begins after sunset and is most intense in the middle of the night, between two and four o'clock.
