Vitamin C - or ascorbic acid, is an antioxidant that is distinguished by its comprehensive action on the human body from an early age. The main sources of vitamin C in our diet are plant products such as citrus, kiwi, broccoli, cauliflower or peppers. Unfortunately, the human body is not able to produce ascorbic acid on its own, so in the case of a diet poor in these ingredients, its additional supplementation can be considered also in children. Regular, prophylactic consumption of vitamin C protects cells against oxidative stress and strengthens the immune system. In addition, ascorbic acid participates in the synthesis of collagen, which is an important building block of bones, joints, skin and teeth. The right amount of collagen in the body is especially important during the growth period. In addition, vitamin C supports the work of the nervous system, thus contributing to the maintenance of normal psychological functions and reducing tiredness and fatigue.
